Took part at this kind of event at several cons.
Basically, you would pay a fee to rent a table. From there, you could sell your old, no longer needed swag.
Great way to make a few dollars and clear closets.
Might be a good thing to have this year. Either the day before the con or a few hours after closing ceremonies.

We call it either the Artists Alley or the Dealers Room. ;)

You would have to set it up in artist alley, though there is a fee to set up a table but artist alley is the cheapest compare to setting up a table in the dealer room.

a swap meet panel is actually a fantastic idea, even if you can't get a panel up and going you could always set up a place to meet people in either the convention center or in the hotel.

Then that's what I'll do, though I'm not sure how i can announce that....oh! I'll just tell people about it when they come to my AA table....the artist alley will be where it was last year, correct? then i can hang a sign or something "Otaku Swap Meet @ 4:00" or something :3 thanks zombie....great idea!!

I SO wish they would do an actual flea market event. I remember the one they did at the last Jacon at the very end and I thought it was such a great idea. I got a bunch of stuff and I'd also be interested in selling/swapping stuff. Years of collecting manga and anime merchandise always means you have things you wouldn't mind selling cheaply or trading for and conventions are the best place for it. However I don't believe artist alley is the best place for it, I think they'd need a separate section, plus it'd probably only be for a few hrs or less so I don't think there should be much of a charge.
I think there'd be the best response if it could be set up officially.

A swap panel would be a great idea. If nothing else, it would be great for people who get grab bags and get something they don't want, they can swap it there.

I'm just not sure how we'd RUN the panel....hmmm....give individuals/groups a number and have them write down what they have? orr....just let everyone walk around and see what they all have?

I would say make sections in the room and then give the person entering a section to set their stuff up. Im really surprised that Metro does not do this. YaoiCon has one the first day of can and I was able to get some awesome swag out of it

I went to the sale last year at AWA and 2 years ago at Yaoicon. These sales always have great deals and I'm able to get more with my money. I came out with more at the sale than in the actual dealer's room ^^; Not saying that the dealer's room is bad or anything, though :P
