Never thought I'd be posting anything here... Haha.

Anyways, my hometown, Winter Haven, FL, has been chosen as the location for the East-coast Legoland! Specifically the famous site formerly known as Cypress Gardens (which changed management a few times with a short stint as an adventure park) known for it's botanical gardens, Southern Belles, and ski shows. Exciting stuff, ne? I've never been to the one in Cali so I'm not sure what to expect, but it should be fun! This was only announced officially like a month ago so I dunno who knows these things XD

Really, they're putting a Legoland in Florida? Sweet! ^_^

They announced it MONTHS ago. I heard an official announcement just before the New Year...

Unfortunately, I have a friend who has been to the original once or twice and said that the whole thing is so kid oriented, that even the biggest LEGO nut over the age of 9 will be bored to tears/furious that they cannot partake in the fun. At least parks like WDW and Universal have stuff for adults just as frequently as children.

That, and the location bites. The lack of easy access from a major highway is PART of the reason Cypress Gardens went bankrupt. With Disney being connected to 3 major highways (Walt was a genius, btw, that was his idea), Universal being bloody visible from I-4 (HELLO, HOGWARTS!!!), and Busch Gardens being close to the two major highways of that area, it is not surprising that Cypress Gardens had to sell to LEGOLand.

I was excited until I heard adult-oriented reviews of the original. Now, I couldn't care less.

I know that there were rumors and such going around for a while, but the actual official press release didn't happen until mid January. I knew it was going to be very kid-oriented, but in a way I find it appropriate because WH is not really a young adult town, there are lots of retirees and their visiting grandchildren. I'm still fairly excited about it, despite some of the concerns people are having (one of my friends thinks it's a terrible idea, the location primarily). Cypress Gardens used to be a huuuge attraction in Florida, but most of that fame came before Disney came along and built the most magical place on Earth. I dunno, I'm partially just glad that a reputable company has bought the gardens so that they don't get destroyed and turned into condos, because it really is a special part of Florida's history. It will never be a competitor with Disney or Universal or any of those places, but I think it has a chance of being quite nice. Then again, I tend to be an idealist and an optimist.
(and holy crap, I saw the topmost spires of Hogwarts and nearly died)

I, personally, would love to visit Legoland! I've been a huge fan since I was a little kid and quite honestly I just like to look at stuff that's been built out of LEGOs! I know that at least one of the Legolands has a working train that you can ride in all LEGO-built and it goes through a LEGO safari/zoo. Personally it sounds like tons of fun for a couple of hours, at least. Then again, I am just a big kid in an adult's body. XD Lol. I wonder if they'll have any tie-ins/special stuff with the LEGO Store at Downtown Disney?

A lot of people nearly did because they weren't watching where they were going on the highway!! XD

Anyway, I have mixed feelings on this after what my friends said about the one in California. :/

Luckily I was in the passenger's seat when I saw it :P

And after looking at the site for the one in Cali, it does look very.. divided. All of their promotional imagery and such show children and their parents. Not a teen/childless adult in sight! Haha. Even the reviews say to only go if you have kids. I mean, that's great for kids and those of us who are very child-like, so I'm still excited. Even though the Cali one has a bunch of rides where there is an age/weight limit. If I'm not under the age limit but I'm under the weight limit, can I still ride the LEGO horse through the enchanted forest? XD
And I don't know what they plan on doing with the Downtown Disney Store. There will of course be some sort of magical LEGO store built on-site, but they'll probably keep the other one just because it's already part of an established shopping center that gets a lot of traffic. And they always have such cool sculptures up!

Depends on whether or not they renew the lease. They're a sub-contracted company, so they pay Disney to be there (which is why Cast Members don't get their full discount there).

Cypress Gardens is a bit of a drive from Disney, and well off the beaten trail, so to speak, so I can't imagine them getting rid of the Downtown Disney Marketplace store. They get AWESOME business there, and I never not see that store hoppin'!

I only get 10% off in the Disney LEGO store. *cry* I would love to be able to get more gifts for my BF there, he loves LEGO, but they get EXPENSIVE, OMG!

Wait wait... So Cypress Gardens/Winter Haven is getting LEGOland?? That sounds pretty amazing because I went to Cypress Gardens a few years ago and it sucked horribly. There was nothing to do but walk around so to speak. I swore I'd never return honestly. I think I found myself a reason to go back to that area now.

I live right across the street from it and still haven't made it there yet! I have friends who work there who say it's worth at least one trip XD Especially now that they have a water park and we Floridians love us a water park.

Since this topic was started quiiite a while ago, maybe a bit of an update? I thought the whole venture of putting the park outside of the larger cities like Tampa or Orlando would cause it to be unsuccessful but as of right now it seems to be getting steady business. No clue if it's making any money, but they just added on the water park and it is the largest Legoland in the world. Business must be good because traffic sucks!
