Hello, everyone, I have a little announcement!
I am in need of ushers in the Main Ballroom to help with events. This includes (but is not limited to) helping load/unload the room with attendees in an efficient manner, keeping control of who-sits-where (AKA - Guest Table Guard), running CDs where necessary, and assisting with room turnaround (moving chairs).*
This job is an important one, and NOT an easy one. You will be required to attend EVERY event in the Main Ballroom, and be on-call for the ENTIRE CONVENTION. Sure, you will get some "you time," but if I call you, you would need to be in the Ballroom STAT. I still want you to enjoy the convention!
This is no ordinary volunteer job. I like to call it a "VIP Volunteer" because you will get perks. Your badge will be given to you at no charge (no worries about having to earn your refund). If I feel you are abusing your position, or not doing your job, I will have to revoke your badge at the convention. Also, after we are finished loading the Ballroom, I will have one table set aside up front for you to view the event. Not just front row seats, but seats near our celebrity guests for your favorite events. Your only responsibility is to acquire a hotel room near the convention. If you are far from the TCC, it is on you to arrive on time.
You may have noticed my use of the word "one" in reference to the "usher table." This is because this staff will be selective. I will be picky in choosing my ushers, because I want to be able to trust that they will do their job well. I will not have very many on my staff, so space is limited. Perhaps less than half a dozen.
If you are passionate about METROCON and you want to help make the events run as smoothly as possible, please contact me through email or PM. But, please, contact me ONLY if you are willing to put 110% of your dedication to the role. This job is not about getting into the con free, it is about making it the most stress-free con experience for everyone, from the celebrity guests to the last attendee.
If you are interested in possibly becoming an Usher, I will be at the Event Audition on Sunday, February 21 starting at the 2PM Orientation ONLY. So, please, arrive at for that tryout, or hang around after the morning one to see me.
If you are unable to attend this allotted time, please email me at lolita.minako@gmail.com or PM me here and we can arrange something. Attendance to the Event Audition is preferable. I will also be at Mascot Auditions the day prior, but will have very limited time to talk.
NOTE:: There will be NO REHEARSAL DATES for this role, so no need to find a way to Tampa (or Orlando, as that is my locale) every weekend. I will be contacting all chosen ushers via email leading up to the con, and I will have a meeting scheduled at the convention for all final preparations.
This role is ideal for anyone who wants to be involved who cannot attend weekly rehearsals for one reason or another. Although, it should not be a supplement or replacement. That sort of attitude will not result in the type of usher we require at METROCON. I want people who are wanting to make the con better, not just looking for something to do.
Thank you, and I will see you at the tryouts.
Jamie Rich METROCON Ballroom Manager lolita.minako@gmail.com
*Duties are subject to change at staff's discretion
REQUIREMENTS: ~You must wear the appropriate attire all weekend, with your badge clearly visible at all times. With the exception of the Masquerade (where you will dress per their dress code), you will wear jeans (not holy, please) with a LIGHT-COLORED tee shirt (METROCON tee shirts will be perfect, for obvious reasons!). I will provide USHER armbands that you will wear at all times while in the ballroom. ~You must be at least 16 years old to apply. ~You will attend a mandatory meeting at 9:30 Friday morning. Failure to arrive on time will result in the revocation of your badge. ~You are responsible for you own hotel room and transportation to and from the convention. These will NOT be provided! ~You are required to arrive on time to all events (you will receive a schedule during the meeting, as well as via email before the convention), as well as check in with me when you arrive. ~You will be required to practice proper hygiene. I will not hesitate to send you to your hotel to take a shower.

Hmm...I am in a financial crisis and I am pretty good at miscellaneous labor if anything else...is there a specific dress uniform or something? Or just a awesome T-shirt? Just asking cause I will be in cosplay and want to make sure it won't hinder anything. Though a usher Bandit Keith sounds cool >.>

Awhhh I was so thrilled when I read this it was just the ideal job I was looking for, to be able to help out during events after the ballroom lines have been taken care of. But then got to the part where auditions were required for such role. Then my happiness was crushed.
I am fully dedicated to my role as a working volunteer! I'm giving up my convention experience fully this year and plan to work the whole entire weekend. I accomplished a vast ammount of work last year and was pleased ^-^

Vic - The audition thing is so I can talk to people. Like it says in the post, I am willing to work around it. Shoot me an email. ^^
Fish - I have been bugging everyone about how ushers are needed in a ballroom that size forever, and last year, after the con, I finally got my way. In turn, I am in charge of them! XD

I'm glad to see this working out for you though. I've noticed in the past years people who did not belong in the VIP section were up there and many other factors.

Alright I sent an e-mail though I wasn't sure what to put. Though I left out the fact I'm willing to work the entire weekend but with a few minutes to spare to drop by the AM panel. This is the only event I feel a must to attend the whole entire weekend if only for a minute or two. Then willing to work as much as I can physically handle! =D
So as a usher do you still do badge checks and making sure no one enters the room beforehand without approval, as well as making sure people go where is needed and running around making sure things that are needed to make the show run are where they are supposed to be or is it strictly working inside the ballroom? ...Now I think of stuff to say, after the e-mail is sent. Thats nice. Aha

Ushers are strictly in-the-ballroom. Security volunteers take care of the initial badge-check. If an usher is stationed at the tables, they will need to check badges. Unless, of course, the person coming up to the tables is obviously a guest.
I plan to attend the AM panel for a few minutes. Once everything is set and going, ushers can sneak out. They are just required to be there for the loading of attendees. After that, see you at the next event. I will, however, try to keep one usher by the tables throughout each event so that no one tries to sneak up front. ^^
EDIT:: blueangel06661, where did you send the email? I don't have anything lurking in my inbox, and I checked Spam, just in case...

On the armbands, I would suggest that applicants either be measure or provide measurements of their upper arm. I know that the security bands never fit me, and if I were on cast I would have to tie two of the blues together.

I plan to make them long enough to tie on anyone, as well as wider with finished edges. I don't have to make as many as the security or cast ones, so I can take more time on them to ensure a proper fit and clean appearance. ^^

White or other light color (yellow, light blue, light pink, etc) are easier to see in dark lighting than black and bold colors.
Meaning if you all look like a bunch of Easter eggs, you're doing it right. XD

I can try to schedule around them, but if they conflict with too many events, I may have to decline. If you're at the tryouts, talk to me, or shoot me an email.

I was just going to ask if we were allowed to wear our Cosplay should we be Cosplaying during any free time and get called over randomly, but I assume it would be best to wear the required attire while we are "on the clock"?

If you are doing your job, you need to be in the specified attire. If I call you because I need a body, get to the ballroom and I will give you a few minutes to change. If you are cosplaying in your free time, keep a tee shirt, jeans, and your arm-band in a bag.
The reason for this is simple: Cosplayers blend in at an anime con. Ushers need to be seen.
