Ok I see alot of this going around the "general" public lately and it makes me sick how hypocritical people really are. People tend to put others who are different than them in a category of other people then tend to put them as their own individuality. People say "Oh, he dresses differently or listens to different music than I, so he is emo." Ok thats where you get things wrong Emo = Emotional, so that means what that person is feeling when he says that is meaning he himself is emo and therefore most of the planet is emo because of general socialization or "grouping". Let me tell you this, People nag and tease at these "groups" of people becaus ethey are different, well In all commen sence of things, they are the minority, therefore they are their own individual selfs, and for those who think and make fun of them are not the minority are actually not individuals themselfs therefore making them soul less followers of a general "invisible" occult of nag and hypocrites, the liberalization of this planet is infuriating and putting anybody into a group of anykind are not individuals in themselfs, therefore the point stating, these so called "Emos" is everybody because there is NO human who does not feel emotions, heightened or not. No matter what you say against this point will and can be used against you. General socialization makes you a follower, not an individual.

I make fun of so called "emo's." But then again, I mock everyone. The following is a short list of generalities.
Emo - Sit in the dark and cry
Rap - Use someone else' creativity to create your own music, pimp ho's, do drugs, and oh yes, Cristal.
Rock - Same three chords with a no talent drummer combined with mullets and leather pants.
Goth - Wear black and pretend to be intelligent, wash rinse repeat.
Techno - Forget to wash and rinse, just repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat....
Heavy Metal - Excuse me while I make sounds similar to throwing up into the microphone and lose my hearing.
Musical Theater - Please excuse me while dance fight and pretend I'm better than all of you.
Now back to the serious side of the post. Acting, dressing or in anyway being different than the status quo is asking for someone out there to point it out, often in the most derogatory way possible. I would say that yes, you are expressing your individuality, but wearing womens jeans and a scarf and combing your inverted mullet over one eye has already been done. You may say that I am being harsh but every generality of every culture or counterculture tends to conform towards a small set of images. I walked into an audition not to long ago and at least half of the men in the room were wearing vests over their collard shirts and two thirds total spoke with a pronounced effeminate quality. Does that mean that I am gay because I dress nicely and sing while dancing on stage? No, but it sure means that I will at some point in my career end up with a role that makes the audience question some aspect of my character. If there hadn't been a guy there that looked closer to the part I would have been cast as a parole officer with pedophilic and homosexual undertones.
So I guess the moral of this story is that if you don't want people to judge and make fun of you... Wait, sorry, not going to happen, there is no moral to this story. Everybody is on the receiving end of a stereotype.

I'm going to move this topic to the Debate side of the forum because I feel this has the sense of becoming a rather decent debate.

stop being so emo and complaining about it, that's how life is.
And if you really know what you were talking about, emo was originally a musical genre that became twisted around and finally morphed to represent moody teenagers that weren't quite as snazzy as scene kids.
Nobody ever uses the word emo as a replacement for the word "emotional", because although emo came from that word, they currently do not mean the same thing.
Everyone gets showed into groups, not just emos. Ben did a fairly good job at listing some of those groups. Dont act like emos have had some great injustice set upon them by being stereotyped or viewed by the public in a negative light, because pretty much all th groups get negative attention in some way.

I just don't understand (In response to ben's post) why you have to dress and act a certain way if you like IDK the color black..... I just find it weird that you need to invent or at least become an entire persona to like a certain thing. ^_^

if your argument is about individualism then you sir are a hypocrite. There is nothing about being an emo kid or any type of group that involves non-conformity because all you're really doing is conforming to a different group and call it something else. "I'm an individual because I dress like a different group and because I don't wear abercrombie."
besides, emo is so 2005
EDIT: so much more I forgot to say.
You're never gonna get everyone to be happy about your ideas and that's one of the better parts of being different, because you aren't like everyone else ( as you say you are), quit complaining about it, it's called real life, not everyone is gonna like you, and if they don't, screw them.
I could keep going but it's not worth it imo.

You don't have to Cris. Be your own person. Just remember that everyone who see's you is going to judge you by how you look long before you have a chance to convince them that you are you. And there are at least two fashionista categories for almost any particular point about a "look." Wearing black you can easily go to Goth or pretentious artist, not to mention a hundred other categories depending on how you wear it. Then of course there is the guys wearing womens pants. There you will either be classified as "emo" or "gay." Not much you can do about that. And if you plan to tell me that wearing clothing with no, headroom, is more comfortable, I shall take your word for it.

I'm not putting anybody in any group I respect people for their choices, and I dont mock them for what they choose, I dont like to follow the media. I am not complaining about it either I am stating how MOST people think.

Human beings are social creatures. We segregate ourselves based on many different reasons ranging from Race to hobbies. It is human nature to conglomerate with those you identify with, its a primal survival strategy.

That is true Human beings are social and strive to be with others that are similar but what if one can't find others? Even outside of the "Emo" lifestyle there are people who live in isolation because they can not seem to find acceptance amongst others.
