I wonder if there are any past cast members or new people that live in or around the Kissimmee/St. Cloud area. If so, it might be easier to split the work out groups into two separate groups. That way, everyone will have an opportunity to make it (no excuses of "It's too far"), which would both groups to have a higher turnout.
Of course, if everyone lives in the Tampa area, my suggestion would be useless. Either way, just wanted to put that out there to try to help out. If it is a good idea, let me know and I'll start looking into areas that can be used (I know of two that used to be used by the renaissance group to train for duels).

Hello everyone Cris here.
So I see that you all are trying really hard to put together an other Metro Practice. It seems to start earlier and earlier each year. But, if you really want it I can set up something for the following weekend here at USF where we did it last year. On Maple Dr. in between Holly Dr. and Fletcher in USF If you are coming from Fletcher you will see us on the right on a grass field in between two buildings.
Tell me what you all think and I'll check my work schedule and set something up.

(FIRST POST GO!) I want to audition this year so if anyone sets up a pre-training meeting I'm in. I live near St. Pete, so Tampa isn't too far.

Ok I work at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. We can do a 11:30am to 2:30pm practice on Sunday 10/18/2009. What do you all think?
You all can stay later if you all want. Vic will most likely drop me off at work and come back.
So if you all are serious about this please post here as soon as possible.

Ok so the first practice went great. We had fantastic weather and got to go over our favorite drills. Ok I work at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. We can do a the next practice at 11:30am to 2:30pm on Sunday 10/25/2009. What do you all think?

Tampa is far away from Gainesville. T-T
So... if you're in Gainesville and interested in doing stuff, contact me! A few of us get together pretty much every day and train in something- we do capoeira, aerials, trapeze, stage combat, dance, etc- so let me know if you want to join in! Don't know how many people are in the area, but the more the merrier. ^^

oh and since it looks like a bunch of people in here have done chess before - i was wondering how many people usually show up to the tryouts? I'm in pretty good shape, but i was wondering how competitive it really is.

i know theres 30 roles that have been announced, but how many secret roles are there usually, and how many stagehands and such do they usually take?
and of the people who try out - how many would you guess are in good shape?

yeah 80 is about the minimum nowadays if I recall right, though I'm pretty sure that we have had over a hundred at some point. Stagehands tend to vary on the size of the show, but for chess they usually end up taking at least 5 but probably more. As for the fitness level of the participants? Well it certainly ranges, but the past few years it has become rather competitive. There tends to be positions for various body types on cast and while ones appearance certainly matters, i would say that being fit enough to safely do strenuous activity(especially in the heat) is the most important aspect of the physical portion.

I knew I wasn't crazy. I spent 20 minutes trying to remember what we had, and the number 146 was throwing up red flags in my head, alas I thought it couldn't possibly be right....
