The #1 question on the list of Frequently Asked Questions for the Fantasy Masquerade concerns the dress code.
"Can I wear this?" or, "Is this formal?" or even, "How do I make this formal?" emails flood my inbox every year.
This is the thread where we save my email! LOL, okay, so it isn't, but is IS the place to ask questions about the Fantasy Masquerade dress code.
If you wish to speak privately about your costume idea (I understand we all like to have out surprise costumes!!), feel free to PM me or email me at fantasymasquerade@gmail.com.
Rules: ~Do NOT post images larger than 400 pixels wide or 500 pixels tall (whichever is larger), you may also post a link. ~READ THE THREAD BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION! Your question may have been answered! ~Do NOT post questions about a certain year's theme! (I.E: 2008 - Nightmares, 2009 - Steampunk), this is a universal FM Dress Code thread! These rules apply despite the theme. If you have any theme-specific dress code questions, EMAIL ME DIRECTLY AND DO NOT POST THEM HERE! For example, Do NOT post here asking, "Can I wear this since it is Steampunk, but not really formal?" EMAIL ME THESE QUESTIONS. NO EXCEPTIONS.
IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE RULES, YOUR POST WILL BE DELETED!
Code: (replace the { } with [ ] and the random text with that of your own!) Hyperlink: {url="http://www.photourlblah.com"}Link Text Goes Here!{/url} Photo Tag: {img}http://www.photourlblah.com{/img}
When we get it posted on the website, I will post the full Fantasy Masquerade dress code here, as well. ^_^

I have never attended a Masquerade so please forgive me, if what I ask you is considered a "dumb questions". For a while I have been planning this cosplay, and well...I thought it would be awesome if I could wear it to a Masquerade. Is this appropriate? (Yamapi Tomohisa from the Japanese Drama Nobuta Wo Produce) . I thought because it has a blazer and nonjean pants it would be considered formal, plus the shoes I would pick would be formal (this would be a serious crossplay). I have other ideas, so if this is not formal, I have other back up ideas that I know are formal. Thank you!

Not thinking about I had planned to wear something that might seem odd. A large fake 'iron' suit, something along the lines of a diver's suit....It isn't really formal but it's all over the Steampunk....heh

Missind33 - I am going to bring that one up with Roy. I am not sure. ^^
TheFinaldemon - The Steampunk fashions still need to fit in the formal setting, or the crew. IE: An Engineer. We need to a picture for your diver idea to make sure it is okay. Even a rough sketch.

Ok. I know we'll be attending this Masquerade. What I don't know yet is what we'll be wearing.
My ideas for me are here: http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/3792/xxxholicagainqn5.png and http://www.wondermay.com/wallpaper/xxxholic001s.jpg
Though I could quite easily have some other outfit decided on for me. Not sure yet what Rick is wearing. Nor Kidlet. Kidlet is three and I wonder, does he need to be in something formal? And are those two ideas formal enough, or should I be looking into something dressier?

For a three year old, just dress them up all cute and stuff, but keep it dressy. I am not going to ask you to rent a miniature tux for a toddler. XD
And Yuko is totally appropriate for the event, just keep it covered (some of her costumes are revealing! And the second is more fitting for formal than the first, unless you use finer fabrics...cotton will dress that one down a lot). ^__^

I have a question about the masks. A friend of mine has one, but it's the one where it has the stick attached on the side instead of having a band on it. Would that be ok? >.>

only_one - that outfit would be okay as long as you embellish it to make it more formal or steampunk (the latter looks more fun!)

Where exactly can I find a more steampunk dress. And what is more steampunk? Color wise is it browns and blacks? :) Thank you Lolita.

It can really be any color, but muted colors are more accepted. Do a Google search for Steampunk and you should find a few stores and sites there!

Ok, so me and my sis have two dresses left over from a Spirit Week Blast from the Past Day. They're princess outfits and the site said Renaissance/historical outfits, so would that be okay?Attached Image:

Why do I have the feeling these pics are too large? @.@

I'm wondering if a half mask/phantom of the opera style mask is appropriate such as the attached picture? Attached Image:

Also, would goggles be acceptable to be used as a mask?
Thanks ahead of time!

A phantom mask is perfectly appropriate. Goggles are, as well, ONLY if they are being used with a Steampunk costume and logically fit the design.
(From the METROCON website:)
Quote: I would love to wear a gas mask or goggles with my Steampunk costume. Is that okay? Only if it corresponds with your costume. For example, a princess would not be usually walking around with a gas mask on.

I have a question about the dress code that I was rather concerned about last year - enforcing the dress code. I remember one year, I'm not sure which, but they pulled people out of line if they weren't wearing appropriate attire, and it was so exciting because everyone was so amazingly dressed up! This past year I don't think it was that well enforced and I was slightly sad to look around me and see people in jeans and t-shirts. I'm not sure if there were issues with enforcement last year or if there were miscommunication issues (I know there are always going to be quirky problems with conventions), but is the dress code going back to being enforced this year? <3

It's not a matter of the character, but the outfit, and if it fits the dress code.
Scrambles, the outfit fits the dress code. Just, don't forget a mask! XD
