Ubuntu is African for sharks with freaking laser beams on its head.

It is actually a free unix based operating system that is completely free, I'm just wondering if anyone here uses it, or would actually like to know more about it.

Just so you know, it is an amazing operating system that is completely free, has amazing customizing abilities, and anything for it is free also, it works well with most computers(except those with proprietary drivers)

Lets talk about unix guys!

I use it from time to time, almost all computer geeks have atleast one Linux system in their household, right now i'm dual-booting Ubunto and Windows XP(soon to be vista...SHUT UP I NEED IT TO PLAY HALO 2!). but yeah, one feature i like about Ubunto is the Desktop cube, where you can hit two buttons and it switches to a different desktop which is exactly the same desktop, just different processes running on this one. lets see your windows do that!?

oh and it's not unix, its Linux. get it straight. Unix is a mac OS

>.> when my dad switched my computer to Linux he wiped my machine so for the longest time I hated it..."Linux" was like a cuss word for me. ^_^ But now its fine....I got over myself. He just recently switched it to Ubuntu and I like it a whole like better than OpenSuse. He's trying out RedHat on another machine so we'll see what comes of it. My dad's a computer consultant so my computer is actually one of his play computers that he loads random stuff onto. ^_^ yay for me!

Linux.....FTW!!
but I must ask what you guys mostly use it for? OS replacement? or just a fun hobby?

I myself use it at work all the time and do security development for a Slackware live-cd security distro of Backtrack 2.

I also find myself being quite an adamant proponent of Linux as a OS replacement for windows, with VM-ware and wine windows programs and environment emulation are definitely possible in a Linux OS.

SOO yeah rock on linux bros ....rock on...

I live in an all Apple house 'cause I'm an Apple-head but my dad uses it on his computer at school since windows *hiss* is the only thing they have.

My kitten, my kitty cat. When she's content she purrs. She thinks the house is hers. But you won't like her when she's angry. No, you won't like her when she's angry. Angry, angry. She's cuddly. She's lovely when she's in a happy mood.
She loves her kitten food. But she's got such an attitude...
Completely rotten attitude. Rotten attitude. Kitten is angry, kitten is offended. Fur standing out and little claws extended.
Darting around and meowing quite a bit, and throwing such a hissy fit. I don't know what to make of it. Don't touch her.
Don't look at her. My kitten knows TAE KWON DO.
She can take you out, I know.
I've seen it before and it's not pretty. She's really one ferocious kitty cat. Cat Meow. (Oh, yeah.)She's deadly. She'll hurt you. She'll show you endless pain. Her little whiskers are stained with the blood of those that she has slain. Believe me, she will go insane. She will go insane. Kitten is angry, kitten is offended. Fur standing out and little claws extended. Darting around and meowing quite a bit, and throwing such a hissy fit. I don't know what to make of it. Kitten is angry, full of discontentment. Wildly attacking random pieces of lint. Darting around in a psychotic blitz, and throwing all these hissy fits, but I still love my kitty cat to bits!

I've tried Ubuntu and I really like it. It comes with lots of software just waiting to be downloaded.

Over the past few weeks, I've been trying out different linuxes (is that a word?). I've tried OpenSuse 11.1, LinuxMint 6, Ubuntu 8.10, Kubuntu 8.10, and Mandriva One 2009. Right now I'm using Fedora Core 10 and looking forward to 11. It's in a dual-boot configuration with Windows. However, I'm thinking of getting my wife a laptop so she can have what she wants, and make my tower all linux.

Quite frankly, I haven't personally booted into Windows for a long time.

When you want to make linux plural use the term Distro's.

so you would be trying out lot of different Distro's. Short for distributions.

Don't know if this is technically the right place for this, but since there is already a Ubuntu thead...

I ran across the link below on a linux news site. It is basically a very short manga about some of the benefits of Ubuntu. Enjoy. ^_^
