So, after creating a poodle skirt for a family friend's child, I decided that a Metro Sock Hop would be really fun. So is anyone interested in attending this event and/or helping me set it up? |

I've actually got a few ideas to pitch at Mr Roy, and I think it will be well liked. ^_^ I only have a theme for this year, and if I want this to continue I should get a general name for it... that is the one part I'm having issues on. >.<
But music, I will most likely ask for some help in that department. :D |

EDIT: Okay, so I can't find anything like it so far, but I am going to keep looking.
Name: The Traveling Ball
Purpose: To allow the patrons to experience a completely diffent time than their own. Each year the ball moves from one time and location to another. This year would be a 1950's Sock Hop in America (Hosted by the Doc himself [not Who]), perhaps next year a Victorian Ball in England.
How is that? |

Chance you take with everything. For the record, I looked and can't find a dance that's been done with that theme. Please do some extensive looking so we don't accidentally copy someone that would be upset. Past that, take the idea for what it is. XD |

Soooo....even though it's an anime con...we don't mind expanding out to other genres though.
So...like...for example..
The most well known sock hop in sci-fi is from Back to the Future.....and..
well..that dealt with time travel. Soooo...maybe if there was more of a....>.>...Time Traveler's sock hop..that might be an interesting idea.
Of course...I do like time travel. Also, not saying this hasn't been done before. Truth is, I have no idea.

Persocoms would be adorable!
I realize there are murder mystery parties, and they are amazing (and so are Sock Hops) that is why I thought combining them would be cool. |

Persocoms is a cute idea...
And there are murder mystery parties out there, too! My friend just went to one, and all the attendees were the characters, and they had to solve it. She had a blast! |

Is it sad that when you talked about the Hosts doing it, my brain went to, "Why not have it hosted by persocoms?"

I would recommend avoiding Ouran... ^^;;;; Think outside of the proverbial box. "Hosted by the Ouran High School Host Club!" panels are becoming rather tired... |

Yes, and it doesn't have to be the con artist that host it, but I think I'm going to skip the hosts and go for day glow.

Which host club? The Ouran Host club? If so, you should probably ask them (The Ouran Host club) first before comitting them. Also, remember, somthing like this (and other event suggestions) need to be approved first. So, don't start planning and getting materials and advertising unless it's for sure going to happen. We're a tad early to be approving any major events yet. So, they all go into the pile and we discuss them at our meetings.
I'm definetly not trying to discourage anything, just making sure it all goes in the proper order. XD |

Cool idea guys! Though, you'll have to work on it a bit more to see what you can do to make it different. We wouldn't want to just copy a normal sock hop (that's been done at other conventions with varying degrees of success), but make special enough to be held at METROCON and have more than just a handful of fans want to come to it.
After that, if it's good enough, we'll consider it. |

Just something interesting I wanted to add (just because fun trivia is always interesting)....in the 50s, no one had poodles on their skirts. It was the circle skirt or pencil skirt that was the fashion. At least, my grandmother (who was in high school in the early 50s) never saw a poodle on a skirt. XD
Not that I would avoid doing such, LOL, I would totally put a Kyo on a skirt for a Tohru outfit!! :] |
