On a professional level, Miss Zunk is a seasoned veteran of the information technology industry, with over ten years' experience in everything from call center support to infrastructure management and ranging from small businesses through Fortune 100 enterprises. Recent engagements have included Network Administrator for one of the largest cable providers in the USA, an Information Technology Manager for a small-business benefits management company, writing for an international communications provider, and Regional Systems Coordinator for a commercial real-estate management company. She's a founding partner and Chief Technologist of Xanatos Enterprises, Inc., a Florida-based web services provider.
Although she's a devotee of the Open Source movement in general and Linux in specific, Miss Zunk is well versed in several platforms. Aside from Linux ("Debian Potato distro r0xx0rs 'cuz apt-get is your friend!") system administration, she has and does work with Windows(tm) and Macintosh(tm) systems and networks, and has even managed to get them to co-exist peacefully over both wired and wireless infrastructures.
In what little spare time she can find, Amy whiles away as a freelance writer for several online publications doing editorial commentary and product review. Her column on Geek.com, "Backwards and in 4 inch heels", addresses women in the technology industry. She's been known to test hardware and software for her columns, and currently has a different PDA for every day of the week - but not the weekends... yet. (Hint Compaq! Hint Sony!)
It could be argued that her taste in technology is indicative of a multiple personality disorder. In fact, though, she just exercises her feminine prerogative to change her mind at any time, without notice.... sound like any familiar EULAs?
Her other passion is the world of Japanese animation. Her first exposure to this was Akira at a sci-fi convention over 10 years ago. From that time on, she was hooked. Her favorites include Robotech, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell and Bubblegum Crisis. Yes, it’s the older anime, but it’s a start. Her newer favorites include Spiral and Heat Guy J. But her secret desire is to own her very own veritech. This passion is shown in her column over at AnimeMetro.com.
