MVS arcade hardware
MVS stands for Multi Video System. It was an ingenious piece of arcade hardwere with a main PCB which contained 1, 2, 4 or 6 slots depending on which board the arcade owner invested in. This allowed gamers to select from up to 6 different games (You may remember the old Nintendo Playdia arcade system which gave gamers a choice of 10 feeble NES games). When a game started to lose popularity, the arcade owner could just order new game cartridges (which came with moves stickers and marquee headers) and could swap out games in less than a minute. Since the system had a standard 8-way joystick and 4-button set up, this was even easier than swapping out JAMMA boards (industry standard wiring harness for PCB boards) for new games and eliminated any need to change the control panel (the only exception to this rule was the Irritating Maze game which had a custom trackball controller. The Mahjong games may have also had special controllers in the arcades, but I'm not sure. I know there's a special controller for the home console for mahjong games, but it is a rare and expensive collectible these days).
