Jojo no Kimyou no Bouken OAV 3 (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure)
synopsis by Jareth David (from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 1999 Anime Guide)
In ‘Four Rooms: The Man From Hollywood’ Tarantino thought ‘The Man From Rio’ was intriguing, probably because he’d never seen this. Joestar and his team of Stand-users need some vital information to continue their pursuit of Dios. The man who has the knowledge they seek is a gambler with a name that sounds like a doll made by Mattel (or so Joestar intentionally errs in an attempt to unnerve him). Darby agrees to tell them what they want to know if they can beat him at a supposed game of chance…but the cards and everything else seem to always be in his favor (who said cheaters never perspire?). The only problem is he wants them to ante up with their souls. This is one of THE most suspenseful anime OAVs ever made. You could cut the tension with a katana. The poker scene makes the sleight of hand in Mel Gibson's film ‘The Maverick’ seem anti-climactic by comparison.
