Card Captor Sakura TV
synopsis by Jareth David (from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 1999 Anime Guide)
This great majoko series by CLAMP is allegedly being picked up for ruination in U.S. syndication as Card Captor Nikki. See it before it gets destroyed by the hacks! Of course they said the same thing about another anime by CLAMP, so maybe there’s still hope the misguided gaijin will give up. I guess they figured with every kid in America is collecting Pokemon cards this’d be a hit or something. 10 year old Sakura is using her magical abilities to gather up all the Clow Cards (several of which seem to be of elemental nature) to save the world from disaster. She is assisted by Kerberos, the former guardian of the cards, who’s currently stuck in the form of a winged teddybear until he gets back to full power. She has one thing not many Magical girls have…her own personal fashion designer! Her best friend Tomoya designs her costumes for her, not to mention her dedicated videography capturing all Sakura’s glory and even her embarrassing moments for posterity. Sakura’s voice is by Sakura Tange (Miwa’s obnoxious actress/model cousin Suzu in MB).
Card Captor Sakura movie 1
synopsis by Jareth David (from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 2000 Anime Guide)
How can Jareth be loyal to his new HK addiction without alienating anime fans? By showing an anime film that takes place in Hong Kong. Sakura, Li Shaoran & Li Meiling fight a tough card in the opening scene while her costuming dept./frighteningly adoring same gender friend Tomoyo documents the event as usual. Why? Foreshadowing, necessary set-up, etc. Anyone who’s ever watched a film knows the power of this particular card will be needed at some crucial moment, it’s a given. Since it is a film budget it is animated very well. It even has a story that might even hold the interest of those with aversion to cutesy girl anime.
Sakura wins a trip to Hong Kong & takes big brother along. Everyone else either tags along or shows up conveniently. The local girls fawn over the Japanese foreigners who look cute in Chinese clothing. Shaoran’s mother gives Sakura a prophetic warning. Sakura runs into a powerful magical force that is drawn to the Clow Cards. Sakura must find the connection between her new adversary and Clow Reed & save her friends all while being 10 times more entertaining than that Pokemon crap. Catch this instead!
Card Captor Sakura movie 2: The Sealed Card
synopsis by Jareth David (from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 2001 Anime Guide)
First we ruined Escaflowne, then CCS. This film is the best Sakura yet, too bad the hack American companies will probably never
