Photon
synopsis by Jareth David (from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 1999 Anime Guide)
Yet another addition to the category of anime I refer to as ‘zanywackyfunstuff’ (a term of bemused reverence which I often reserve for the works of Akahori Satoru). Kiene Aqua, the grandaughter of a Class A criminal, is on the run from Count Papacharino. Unfortunately she lands on a sand planet where the people are dimmer than the inhabitants of the planet Todd Spengo. Hey, their town treasure (shinki) is a marker pen, how would you describe them? When Ann Freya runs off to chase after a pop star named Rameru (her dreamguy of the week), Photon Earth (an incredibly strong little boy who sleeps in a box) is sent after her and winds up waking Kiene from suspended animation and is accidentally engaged to her through a cultural misunderstanding (Tenchi anyone?). Things get complicated when it’s discovered by the aliens that Ann can stop time movement using something akin to the Ahou Power which she was born with but is usually only accessible with a brain crystal. Another great bizarre comedy anime.
