Tokyo Mew Mew synopsis by Jareth David
New TV series from Studio Pierrot which began running on TV Aichi on April 6, 2002. It seems it was based on a manga that ran in Nakayoshi (the Nakayoshi site sells Mew Mew goods with manga style art on them, so I'm guessing here).
OP: "my sweetheart" by Rika Komatsu ED: "Koi wa A LA MODE" by Tokyo Mew Mew
Story: Something about girls combining with endangered animals to make a race of superheroes...BWAHAHAHA! j/k, well mostly or kinda sorta
How do you create a completely sugar-coated magical idol singer girl show that guys will watch? Try combining 2 of the biggest clichés favored by anime fanboys these days. Cat girls and maid outfits should do the trick...might as well give one girl glasses for that whole meganeko thing. Now you can market majoko wand/microphone thingamajiggers and other pastel painted toys to girls and vinyl kits & wall scrolls to guys...or so I'm guessing.
