Yuri Ohtani is voted onto the school’s lacrosse team by her class and gets a VERY protective helmet that also washes her back – OK it’s an alien that sits on her head & shoots out long drillbit tendrils from its wings. She & 2 other girls aren’t really a lacrosse team, they’re in charge of rounding up aliens for the school zoo. Sure, give the emotionally unstable girl a dangerous task. Then 3 stupid boys form a rival lacrosse team (different alien Helmet Monsters – Helmemon?), Yuri gets a new hairdo, and that’s when things get really disturbing (like Eraserhead meets Tetsuo Body Hammer disturbing). Is that giant mushroom an alien ship or what the animators were eating to inspire this series? This was the only anime demented enough to follow FLCL on the schedule. The OP theme song "Flower Psychadelic" is very addictive.
Note: a very interesting series, but it may be a bit psychologically disturbing for younger viewers. |
