HANDSOME NA KANOJO OAV
synopsis by Jareth David (from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 2000 Anime Guide)
What kind of name is Handsome Girlfriend for a manga series? Don’t ask me, ask Yoshizumi Wataru, its creator who followed it with a little shojo manga called Marmalade Boy. You’ve seen artwork for HNK if you’ve seen the MB illustration artbook. This manga series ran for 9 tankoubon (1 collected volume longer than MB). Sorry its not subbed, but the Tomodachi fansub is hard to come by & I had trouble trying to track down a factory tape of this one shot OAV from Japan. There’s less attempting to separate couples through any devious means possible (an MB trademark), but besides that I don’t know much about this, so I’ll have to read through the manga series after the con sometime. The OAV isn’t long enough to get too far into the characters, so it deals with Ichiya (cv=Toshihiko "Shurato" Seki) who is the love interest for Mio Hagiwara (cv=Sakiko "Pirotess" Tamagawa) and seems to have a past with idol singer Aya. He’s making a movie starring Mio in which he decides it’s a good idea to do his own motorcycle stunts…too bad he didn’t learn anything from Dar Robinson…
