FLCL (FuriKuri) OAVS 1-6
synopsis by Jareth David
(from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 2001 Anime Guide)
Nothing amazing, just the norm – if the norm is an insane 6 OAV series from Gainax (Evangelion, KareKano, Nadia). Some scenes have a crazy style similar to the animation sequences of the Tank Girl movie. If your last 2 series were about psychotic kids piloting mecha & students trying way too hard to be popular, what’s next on the agenda? How about trying to create the most messed up anime series ever? Excel & Puni are just crazy parodies, Kodocha has its sentimental moments. Obviously their creators are rank amateurs in the psycho ward.
Ta-kun lives in a town with a factory shaped like an iron that actually lets off steam. His brother went to America, leaving behind a girl who gives Ta-kun hickeys to let off steam, so something amazing doesn’t happen (note to self: get some female friends like Mamimi). Enter violent guitar-swinging, scooter riding Vespa woman hired as a live-in housekeeper (Is We Got It Made showing in reruns in Japan recently or something?) If video DID indeed kill the radio star, maybe he did it by smashing him over the head with a guitar til a TV came out. I can’t wait to finish watching this series… so it would all make no sense. The import dvds for Furikuri had English subtitles -- thereby saving the sanity of any foolhardy would-be fansubbers. The ultra-catchy ED theme "Ride on Shooting Star" by the pillows is stuck in my head now...until someone bashes my skull with a guitar to let it out.
