Akazukin Cha Cha TV
synopsis by Jareth David (from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 1999 Anime Guide)
What does the most powerful magician in the land do with his spare time? He plays with hand puppets (this series pre-dates the existence of Mr. Hat)…when he’s not training horribly inept little students like ChaCha. It’s time for her to go off to Urara Gakuen witch school, but Seravi is more than a bit apprehensive, especially when his rival Dorothy wants him dead (so she can be #1) and might be willing to go through ChaCha to do it. ChaCha’s friend Riiya (who can shapeshift into wolf form) likes her, but must suffer the indignity of being treated like her pet (P-chan anyone?). Her friend Shiine also has a crush on her & (taking a cue from her adoration of Riiya’s animal form) turns himself into a cute little mouse only to receive a beating for his troubles (ChaCha hates mice). I liked that the show stresses the importance of loved ones. ChaCha relies on her 2 most trusted friends Riiya & Shiine, for without them she couldn’t transform into an older alter-ego archer/magician. Remind me to track down all 74 episodes someday.
