TO HEART TV 3-7
synopsis by Jareth David (from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 2000 Anime Guide)
Ever wonder what would happen if you tried to make a non-hentai anime based off a hentai videogame? To Heart is the result of just such an idea. Hiroyuki Fujita is a nice high school boy who, over the course of 13 episodes, meets different girls who he helps out, none of whom take their clothes of for him (sound familiar? If you’re an otaku, this probably describes your life.). The departure is that at least one of them likes him. His childhood friend Akari has been harboring a secret crush on him since like forever. Hopefully this will work out better for her than it does for most of us IRL. Of course she can’t admit her feelings to him, possibly because she fears if she’s rejected they might not be together anymore. Akari’s friend Shiho is also in love with him…she just doesn’t know it yet.
I was amused by a scene in episode 5 where Hiroyuki teaches Lemmy (a cute Amer-Asian girl, not the guy from Motorhead) how to open one of those gimmicky bottles of Ramune (another excellent japanese soft drink on top of my list with Calpico Water a.k.a. milky sprite). Serika Kurusugawa is the archetypical sickly anime girl so in vogue these days whom we’ve all come to love (Rei, Hotaru, etc.). She’s a rich girl with few friends, an interest in the occult & an inability to speak at levels higher than 1 decibel thereby necessitating Hiroyuki to repeat what she’s just said to him so the audience can keep up. Kotone is the lonely purple-haired psychic girl who has a crush on Hiroyuki’s soccer star friend Masashi.
