Neo Geo CD system
Whenever I think of the NeoCD, it conjures up images of Dieter from Sprockets saying "Touch him, touch my monkey, love him..." (this is an SNL reference). Why? Because that accursed juggling monkey haunts the dreams of many a NeoCD owner.
He's always sitting there in the screen juggling his stupid balls while the NOW LOADING message appears for what seems like a 'trip to the DMV-esque' eternity (at least to a gamer).
The 75%+ lower prices for games was nice, but it came with a price...the first version of the NeoCD had a major problem with load times because of it's single speed CD drive (the later version had more RAM to help this problem a bit).
Because of the immense size of Neo games, it was a major distraction.
King of Fighters 94 loading issue is very annoying. The RAM doesn't have room to load in the final blow of the match and the winners screen. You make your last hit on the enemy and...NOW LOADING, once the stupid monkey is done with his freakin circus act you get to see the last enemy fall down the clear background screen and then the WINNER screen of your characters. It gets annoying really fast...which is why you start saving up for an arcade cab so you can get those bargain priced used MVS games.
The size of Neo Geo games also caused problems for ports to other consoles as well. Take the (import) Playstation version of Metal Slug. You're cruising along through a level of Metal Slug driving the little Bonaparte-esque tank when...wait what happened? Out of gas? Nope, it's time to wait for the rest of the level to load. ARGH!
