Dragon Half
synopsis by Jareth David
(from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 1995 Anime Guide)
If you think Jojo had a bizarre adventure, prepare yourself for the story of Mink. She's half-human, half-dragon and totally in love with Dick Saucer -- dragon slayer and rock superstar. Don't start assuming that Mink fell into one of the mysterious ponds of Jhusenkyo where a dragon once drowned or something (this isn't Ranma -- actually it's much funnier). Her origin might be considered even weirder than her father's. Ruth (a.k.a. Red Lightning) was a swordsman sent by the dememnted King Siva to slay a red dragon, but things didn't go exctly as planned. Ruth fell in love with the female dragon. They married and had a daughter named Mink.
Now the King wants Ruth killed so he can 'have' his wife. I told you he was demented, didn't I? (I'm trying to avoid making any number of bad jokes using the word 'ruthless' here, please feel freee to come up with your own). With the help of his advisor Rosario and his daughter, Princess Vina, he is out to use Mink as bait for Ruth. They'll use any dirty trick they can think of: poisonous darts, inept swordsmen, black magic, martial arts tournaments with brutal killers, and laxatives if necessary. They'll even use Mink's beloved Saucer against her.
Will Dick Saucer ever truly love Mink...or is he just another guy who wants to stick his sword in her? This is one of the strangest and funniest anime that I have seen yet. It makes the weirdness in Urusei Yatsura seem almost tame by comparison. Show up and watch it, you will not regret it (Damaramu might though), you'll only wish there were more than 2 episodes.
