Cowboy Bebop TV
synopsis by Jareth David

(from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 1999 Anime Guide)

I finally found out what Sunrise did with the money they saved on ‘JustStalled’, they used it to make this kick-ass show. With music by Yoko Kanno, the best anime composer this side of Kenji Kawai (actually she’s better), how can you go wrong? From the opening sequence (punctuated by Kanno’s jazz tune "Tank!") we know we’re in for something refreshing. The stylized credits reminded me of Mod Squad meets Wild Wild West (both old tv series that got mediocre theatrical remakes in ’99).

Mars-born Spike Spiegel and his partner Jet Black are big-time intergalactic bounty hunters with small-time cashflow. They eat ‘meatless’ meat dishes because despite the fact that they just nabbed a huge reward, it was all spent paying for damages caused during the operation (much like Kei & Yuri).

They have to track down a man named Asimov who split from the syndicate with an addictive form of eyedrops that send the user into a berserker state. Can Spike keep his mind on the job instead of his eyes on Asimov’s pregnant girlfriend? The last thing you want to do is get distracted in the presence of a hopped-up psycopath. Personally, I’d love to see this guy in a crossover with Vash the Stampede, but that’s as likely to happen as Tony’s idea of Lacey Chabert in a live action version of ‘Battle Angel’. Spike is voiced by Koichi ‘Ryouga’ Yamadera. This is one of the most interesting new series of the past year and makes good use of digital effects which are being abused by other series.

Spike could make some fast cash from the bounty Tim Burton has no doubt put on the filmmakers’ heads for stealing a plot point from Batman (the movie, not the comics Tim never reads *cough* Clerks). This film takes place somewhere in the middle of the timeline for the Bebop TV series.

Faye witnesses a chemical tanker explosion while chasing a lead on a hacker. People from the blast area start getting sick & a chemical or biological weapon is suspected. The Martian government offers a W 300,000,000 reward (Quantos laserdisc caixos ou falafel estar
