Jareth David's ANIME SYNOPSES
Note: 90% of these don't have pictures up at the moment. We are frantically working to remedy that problem, but re-optimizing and resizing our old pics for the site may take a little time.
This is an ever-growing section of synopses written by me over the course of the last 10 years, many of them are taken from old convention guides we did for our anime programming as J.U.R.A.I. (Japan's Unique Realm of Animated Imagery) and before that as M.A.G. (Manasota Anime Group). The guides these synopses were originally printed in are indicated where applicable.
My synopses (since they were written for local conventions) have a habit of referring to people within the anime group or other friends of ours. There will be occasional references to people you don't know, like Tony (who was our cover artist for several years). I'm usually referring to his dislike of shoujo and magical girl anime series. You'll also notice mention of Zack, my co-conspirator in what I jokingly refer to as 'the failed coup attempt of 1998' (we took over running the con when GWAdmin wanted a year off and ran into unforseen difficulties and were only able to finish half of the guide in time that year). Zack and I were the 'shoujo anime pimp daddies' of J.U.R.A.I., always trying to sneak more dramatic and romantic related anime on to the video schedule every year :)
You will also notice that a few of the synopses give rather brief descriptions, this was mainly due to lack of space in the guide to print them. Until recent years when I began taking on more duties for the convention, GWAdmin was the editor on most of the guides and was always trying to keep the page count down -- for good reason. It gets expensive to print a full color 30 page synopsis guide when you start throwing lots of pictures into it. GWAdmin and I usually spent about $100 each of our own money for printing costs and tape giveaways every year. The guides were sold to con attendees to recoup printing costs and several years we actually lost money selling them below cost (especially in 2000 when we made our best con guide ever and the ink costs for my new printer were considerably higher as was the print quality). It's a bit nostalgic now to read things I wrote that date from the present to all the way back in 1994.
So far I've completed putting up all the anime synopses I wrote from 1998-2001. You will notice that not all of them are incredibly informative and I have a slight tendency towards occasional sarcasm...that's what sometimes happens when you try to write 30-40 synopses in 2 weeks to meet convention deadlines. Sleep deprivation and its accompanying madness start to influence my writing in such instances. Am working on getting pictures up for all the synopses, but it may take a bit to finish all of that.
UPDATE 04/21/03: I noticed tonight that much to my annoyance some of the synopses cut off in the middle and I'm now going to have to go through all of them to check and (where necessary) repair them. I also need to put up all the synopses I wrote for the Necro 2k2 Anime Guide.
