Bandai brings us one of the best OAV series of 98-99. The series was based on a manga from the 60’s & is highlighted by some interesting, if not a bit distracting, use of CG. It’s an odd combination of cel animated characters and CG mecha & elemental FX. It is the end of the 20th century. Tetsu Hayami, a former submariner of the international organization BLUE, has been brought back by Maki Noriyuki. He had no intention of returning until Blue Sub 6 was attacked by an amphibious weapon of Zorndyke’s. Jung Zorndyke is a genetic engineer pitted against BLUE with an army of artificial marine creatures. Tetsu angers Maki by rescuing a female sea creature, Muteo, when the diving boat Grampus faces off against her vessel. With its dazzling visuals and intriguing story, I can’t wait to see the next episode!
