Gestalt
synopsis by Jareth David (from J.U.R.A.I.'s Necronomicon 1999 Anime Guide)
This wacky swords & sorcery anime asks the question ‘why animate the characters when you can just move the digital background?’ (we have begun referring to this series as ‘Just Stalled’). The budget for this show is about the same as the price of a Dreamcast console. All kidding aside, despite some weird production techniques and multi-planed foreground FX, this is a really good series. Tony was even quoted as saying to me "it’s fairly girly…and I like it" (don’t worry, he’s still a Macho Mecha Head with no intention on developing a taste for sugar-coated anime). The priest Orible leaves the Order of Vasaria to investigate the myth of the Foundation of Sarusarowa to find the truth about ‘G’ with a dark elf named Suzu pursuing on orders to bring him back. At the Mansion of Barbaros, he performs a miracle (??making sakurambo blossom when it’s not April??) and as a token of gratitude they give him a cute 16 year old mute girl named Ohli whom he begrudgingly accepts to avoid her being slave-traded to someone with less honorable intentions. Orible will soon learn that his new companion is not what she seems. Their next stop is the kingdom of Birumori where someone’s pulling the old ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ trick on everyone during the colosseum battles and Ohli meets up with her old rival Soushi. Don’t miss Hideo the frost salamander, the coolest saurian sidekick this side of Mecha Roshii!
